My love for Pilates has run parallel to a 40 year career as a make-up artist in the film industry (as Sally Gordon). It began with Penny Latey in a yoga studio in North Sydney in 1990. Penny is now recognised internationally as a published author, peer editor, expert practitioner and mentor of Pilates instructors in Australia.
I’m extremely lucky that the benchmark Penny set has been met by my subsequent teachers. My own journey to become an instructor began in 2002. I became STOTT PILATES® certified in 2009. The training and workshops completed between these dates and since, while mostly STOTT PILATES®, have also included the Franklin Method, BASI Pilates (completing their Advanced Education Certificate Course in Pilates for Injuries and Pathologies)Yamuna Zake’s Body Rolling and Footwork and other well respected Pilates practitioners. In 2006, at the suggestion of the APMA, I studied and attained Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 11.
After becoming certified, I opened my home studio specialising in personal tuition. The studio has hosted both Sting and the French actress Emmanuelle Beart when their work brought them to the Gold Coast.
I hung up my powder puff in 2014 and am now completely immersed in my Pilates life. I also work at Keola Wellness and Pilates, a licensed STOTT PILATES® Training Centre, and my journey continues.
